Nouvelle Eau Dans La Riviere is a cooperation between the mali singer Mariam Koné and the Berlin saxophone player Oliver Fox that combines contemporary west African music with brass sounds of the berlin Jazz-Scene. And Mariam Konés voice is a wonderful dance between Jazz and soul, depth and easiness. A electrifying combination of two worlds beyond the world music cliché.
Nouvelle Eau Dans La Riviere ist eine Kooperation der malischen Sängerin Mariam Koné und dem Berliner Saxophonisten Oliver Fox. Hier verbindet sich aktuelle westafrikanische Musik mit Bläserklängen der Berliner Jazzszene. Und Mariam Konés Stimme tanzt auf ganz wundersam warme und klare Weise zwischen Jazz und Soul, zwischen Tiefe und Leichtigkeit. Eine mitreißende Kombination aus zwei Welten ohne in einer verstaubten weltmusikalischen Schublade festzustecken.

Koné und Fox lernten sich 2019 in Mali kennen, als die Berliner Bigband, das Omniversal Earkestra dort gemeinsam mit lokalen und internationalen musikalischen Größen das Album „Mali70“ (auch bei Trikont erschienen) aufnahm.

Mariam Koné war da bereits eine bekannte Musikerin in Mali. Als Mitbegründerin der HipHop Band „Pacifique“ hatte sie da schon zwei Alben veröffentlicht und mit Oumou Sangare stand sie regelmäßig auf der Bühne. 2013 erschien dann Konés Solodebüt „Dakan“.

Oliver Fox , Saxophonist, Arrangeur und Komponist, lebt in Berlin, ist Teil der Jazzband Omniversal Earkestra und spielt in ganz unterschiedlichen traditionellen aber auch avantgardistischen Ensembles. Er hält engen Kontakt zur Jazzszene in Südafrika und Mosambique wo er mit verschiedensten Künstler:innen zusammenarbeitet.

Mariam Koné übernahm die musikalische Leitung in Bamako – Oliver Fox in Berlin. Beide suchten sich für ihre Aufnahmen Musiker:innnen vor Ort. In instensivem Austausch entwickelten sich Schritt für Schritt die Songs. Die einzelnen Spuren wurden dann in Berlin zusammengefügt, gemixt und gemastert. Die von Fox arrangierten Bläserparts spielte er mit Fabian Engwicht und Till Künkler ein, auch sie Teil von Omniversal Earkestra.
